Writing Talent Rewarded

Two of our Y9 First Story session attendees have received very good news recently; Noah’s entry to the national 100 Word Story competition has received a special commendation and Brandon has been offered a free place on a five day creative writing residential. We are delighted that the commitment and creativity of these two pupils has been rewarded in this way.

First Story awarded the residential place to recognise Brandon’s ‘outstanding application and commitment to the First Story programme’ and continued ‘there was a very strong field of applicants so we would like to pass on our congratulations!’

Noah received a certificate and a book and his story will be printed on postcards available from First Story. When you read Noah’s story, below, we are sure you will understand why it was shortlisted for the top three in the competition.

‘A long, deep growl reverberated through the house. I had forgotten to feed it before, just once. Then I had no father. I can still picture the streaks of blood on the walls, the sharp metallic scent almost choking me. Then it was in my little sister’s bedroom, tearing at a large chunk of meat. Its blood-red eyes almost gave me a heart attack. Alone, I fed it raw beef from the fridge. But it got hungrier and hungrier. Until I heard the stairs creak. It was coming downstairs? First Story is a charity promoting creative writing by placing writers in after school extra-curricular sessions to support pupils in developing their writing for publication. Titus Salt School English Faculty has worked very successfully in partnership with First Story and the writer Andy Craven Griffiths for five years and over 100 pupils have benefitted from the workshop programmes.
