In the Denys Salt Sixth Form students are given more freedom, space and time to take the next steps towards independence. All this, in a safe and caring environment.
There is the option to dress casually and to choose studying from home or at school outside timetabled lessons. In return, we have high expectations: learning to be responsible and accountable are valuable tools for adult life.
An integral element of the Sixth Form experience is the privilege of having a dedicated space to study and socialise. The Hub is also where the Sixth Form Team is based, ready to provide support, advice and guidance.
Subject Overviews
The most important factor for achieving success in Sixth Form is selecting the correct route at the start of Year 12. We want everyone to leave our Sixth Form having been successful in their courses; able to follow the university, apprenticeship or employment path of their choice.
(An overview of each subject is located at the bottom of this list. It can also be viewed in the online application.)

We take the safety of our students and the wider school community very seriously. There is a designated safeguarding team in school and the Sixth Form Team are available to discuss any concerns.
Attendance – Students tap their ID on the card reader to sign in and out.
Lanyards – Students must wear yellow or orange lanyards.
Absence – This must be reported by 8am even if lessons are not scheduled until the afternoon. Students also email subject teachers to request work missed.

Requirements
Students who invest in their education are more likely to achieve great results and be the best they can be.
Dress code
Students should not wear anything that is impractical, revealing, ripped or offensive. Hairstyle and hair colour should not be extreme. The Sixth Form team reserves the right to decide what is deemed as appropriate.
School day
We run a two-week cycle where students are timetabled 42 hours per fortnight including 14 hours directed study, known as Independent Study (SIS).
Independent study
We strongly recommend that for every one hour lesson, students invest a minimum of one additional hour independent study.
Students may work at home or in school outside of timetabled subject lessons.
Students should use Independent Study (SIS) periods (at home or in school) to plan, prepare and read around subjects or to investigate potential future education and career pathways.
We understand that managing time, organisation and self-reliance can be barriers to learning. Therefore, at the start of Year 12, students participate in a workshop with an external provider to understand the tools they need to become successful independent learners.
If there are subject concerns or attendance and punctuality issues the Sixth Form Team may remove home-study as an option.
Assessment and reporting
Each year group has a Parents’ Evening plus reports issued each term.
Year 13 A Level students undertake Progress exams in March and sit assessment week in November. Year 12 A Level students sit Progress exams in July. Vocational/BTEC students undertake assessments, formal exams and coursework throughout the year.
