Launched in January 2024, the house system at Titus Salt encourages team building and healthy competition across school. Every pupil and every member of teaching and non-teaching staff belong to a house to promote a sense of community and give members of staff and pupils the opportunity to work together to achieve house points in a range of different competitions.
Each house is made up of one form per year group and are led by appointed House Leaders. We have nine houses named after birds of prey found in the UK and each has its own crest, colour and identity, as above:
All house events and competitions are worth 10 house points for first place, 9 points for second place down to 2 points for ninth place.
Weekly house points are awarded for both attendance and class charts positives giving each house the opportunity to win up to 20 house points per week.
Pupils and staff have the opportunity to earn extra house points in a range of competitions such as creative writing, Mario Kart, penalty shootout, bake off, sports day, paper aeroplane throwing, quizzes, STEM challenges and many more.
April 2024 saw our first ever house assemblies. Each House Leader presented a house assembly in the main hall to all pupils and members of staff in their house; this was our first opportunity to bring together members of each house and reinforce the value of being part of a team and how they can each contribute to the wider community. The assemblies saw fun videos, house challenges, quizzes, singing and even a world record attempt!
The House Cup is a real piece of our school history. Originally named the ‘Champion Challenge Cup’ it was first presented in 1897 by Mrs Titus Salt. The first winners of the House Cup in 2024 were Kite House who are led by Miss Dowse. The trophy is on display in the trophy cabinet alongside the Dave Thomas Trophy on Street Level 2.
Another fascinating piece of school history. The sports day trophy was used in the original Salt School as an athletics trophy for sports day and was even a house competition! It was first presented in 1919 to ‘Celts’ House and was used up until 1968.
We have named this trophy ‘The Dave Thomas Trophy’ after long-serving and much-loved member of staff Mr Thomas who passed away in 2023.
Mr ‘T’ loved sports day and every year entertained staff and pupils in his range of sports day costumes and embodied everything sports day should be; fun!
After a thrilling 2024 Sports Day where several school records were broken the 2024 winners were Osprey who are led by Mrs Burton.
The Ernest Beaumont Award is presented to the pupil who receives the highest number of positive points in a school year.
Mr Beaumont was a pupil at Salt Grammar School 1947 to 1951, becoming a carpenter before joining the RAF as a medic.
Mr Beaumont was very proud to have been a Salts pupil and after his death in February 2022, a donation of £1000 was made to Titus Salt School in the memory of the late Mr Ernest Beaumont.
