Wonderscape

During the first half-term, it was all things Wonderscape for our newest recruits to the TSS team.

Over summer, all our incoming year 7 pupils were gifted a copy of the book, Wonderscape and given the opportunity to take part in our Summer Challenge. Lots of pupils jumped at the chance and arrived at school with a folder full of beautiful creations, including a hand-crafted wooden boat to represent Isaac Newton’s Principia and enthusiastically shared all of their ideas in their weekly reading lessons where we discussed the characters, explored realms and learned all about the real-life heroes trapped in the Wonderway.

We then had over 60 pupils choose to attend the live author Q&A with us to hear all about Jenifer Bell’s journey to become a writer and her influences for Milo, Ren and Ceceilia’s adventure across time. This was an invaluable experience fot those pupils thinking about a career in writing and those who wanted to know more about the novel.

September 27th was renamed Wonderscape Recruitment Day this year and all of our year 7s experienced a full day off timetable to be immersed in the world and headquarters of Hxperion They had their skills put to the test through an escape room session, learned about our TSS faculty chosen heroes, were introduced to a new computer design programme and planned and prepared a presentation to deliver to their peers. There was a real buzz in the English faculty all day and it was amazing to see teamwork, resilience and ambition in every room.

The winning group from each form and the winners from our summer challenge will be going on another adventure soon to experience their own escape room and enjoy a lunch at Pizza Hut. We know this will be an exciting opportunity for the pupils and the staff attending!

The final exciting news that we’ve just received is that we’ve been selected to help Book Clubs for Schools test out their shortlist of books for next year’s Summer Book Club! We’re sure lots of Year 7s would love to help us out with this opportunity and there will be more details shared with them soon.
