Valentinetastic Poetry Workshops

To celebrate Valentine’s Day 2024, we invited our feeder primary schools to join us for a very special poetry writing and performance workshop run by our English Department. Over 90 Year 6 pupils took part, working in small groups and exploring materials to get them thinking about the things they loved. Pupils wrote, edited and performed their own love poem on stage, we had some fantastic poems and some amazing performances!

We were very grateful to have a team of willing volunteers from our First Story creative writing group and our English A-level classes to support and motivate the primary pupils in their task. They worked incredibly hard all day and were fantastic mentors.

Two of our Year 13 First Story Ambassadors, Milly and Sam also took the opportunity to complete the publishing module of their Young Ambassador pathway by creating an anthology of poems produced on the day to share with the primary schools who visited us.

“It was really fun, I enjoyed working with children younger than myself. I also enjoyed listening to their ideas and building on their knowledge.” said one of our Year 9 mentors

It really was a great day and we were very proud of our primary school pupils and not forgetting our amazing volunteers from TSS who helped out on the day.
