Pupil Achievements

Last week Ms Bennett took a group of Year 7 and 8 pupils to Madni Jamia mosque in Thornbury. The mosque had an open day as part of National Interfaith Week, which is all about promoting community cohesion, tolerance and respect between people of different faiths.

Sixth Form learners will be showcasing their computing and engineering skills at the Premier Farnell Technology Challenge, a Yorkshire-wide competition organised by Leeds-based global electronics distributor Premier Farnell.

Year 13 learner Holly Buchan is to travel as a volunteer to South Africa with Project Trust to help those less fortunate than herself. Following a long application process, Holly was invited to attend a gruelling selection course involving tough tasks, challenges and team-building activities. She was very pleased when she was informed that she had been successful in her application.

Every year when Year 6 pupils join us for Transition Day we invite them to take part in our Summer Reading Challenge and every year we are dazzled by their dedication and enthusiasm to the challenge.

Year 11 pupil Matthew Alred sailed in this year’s Topper World Championships in France. Sailing in the five day event, Matthew got off to a great start thanks to an exciting opening ceremony in Brittany. Matthew began racing five years ago and to achieve the right to sail with the Bronze fleet after such a short length of time is an amazing accomplishment. Matthew competed in three races per day, the majority going well, he made some great progress. One race didn’t quite go to plan when his mainsheet came undone; this meant Matthew was whiskied out of that particular race but he remained confident and carried on working hard to recover.

The STEM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths continues to grow in popularity at TSS and with this in mind STEM Leader, Stuart Green gave our Year 8 pupils a task to create a new logo to represent the four subjects now they are inter-linked. Stuart Green said: “STEM is key to raising both standards and ambitions by bringing together a range of skills, disciplines and learning. Many of our pupils pursue STEM at University, Further Education or through work including apprenticeships. Our commitment to STEM helps our pupils prepare for their next steps and I wanted to give STEM a new look and identity within the school community.”

Matthew Wilson, Year 13, Rhea Southcottt, Year 12 and Matty Wilson, Year 11 all competed in the recent School Games in Loughborough.

Matthew and his team brought home Bronze in the hockey finals; Rhea achieved Gold in the shot putt, gaining the furthest distance ever thrown at the School Games; Matty’s team achieved Gold in wheelchair basketball.

King Felipe VI, accompanied by Queen Letizia of Spain, has accepted an invitation from The Queen to pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom on 12 July. Year 8 pupils have produced a video welcoming the King and Queen in their native language with help from Sixth Form Media pupils, Ellie Weedon and Jacob Lawrence who filmed the video.

Dragons, boats, cannons and bikes are this year’s themes on the graffiti wall in Roberts Park. This year, pupils in Years 8 and 9 took part, designing with the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Tour de Yorkshire in mind. Their designs came to life with the help of Si Mitchell, a professional street artist, who guided them through the techniques behind street art.

We are delighted to announce the launch of our anthology produced in collaboration with First Story; a national charity dedicated to empowering young writers through writer-in-residence opportunities. We are one of 18 secondary schools in the region that have undertaken this programme.

Over the last year, pupils have been working with acclaimed writer Andy Craven-Griffiths to develop all of the pieces in this book and we are launching it to parents cand carers on 10 July 2017.

Jade Buxton, Danyaal Hanif and Yakshina Mistry have beaten off stiff competition to take part in a prestigious four day STEM placement at the University College London. The UCL Year 11 Summer School will include a range of lectures and workshops in a variety of STEM subjects to introduce them to the different teaching and learning methods used at university and will conclude with a celebration ceremony on the final day.

Titus Salt School is collaborating with Next Generation Fitness and Performance to develop our promising athletes. Our TSS Performance Academy was created for boys and girls that show potential to excel in sport. Pupils will have access to a specialised gym where they will work with Ben Nabozny, an expert strength and conditioning coach, who will provide expert training that is appropriate to their age within the youth training models, coaching, education and nutritional guidance.

Year 7 pupils, Jack Allport and Jack Sharp have been selected to play for Bradford Schools Cricket Association. Jack Allport a member of Thackley Cricket Club and Jack Sharp a member at Bradford and Bingley were selected after two competitive trials; the first held at Zara Sports Centre with over 35 talented cricketers. Out of the 35, 16 were selected to compete in a second trial at Woodhouse Grove; both boys showcased their skills and were very excited to be selected for the final squad.

Roberts Park was filled with thrashing paddles again for this year’s popular Dragon Boat Festival. Forty one teams took part, including our very own team of staff, the Titus’ Titanic Titans. The team made their debut, happy to take part for fun to raise money for a good cause, who could have known they would beat off the likes of the Army, Police and Fire Service! Achieving the third fastest time of the day and 2nd position overall the team were elated and have relished in the praise and recognition.

Titus Salt School is delighted to announce that for the sixth successive year, each pupil that left us at the end of Year 11 or Sixth Form studies has progressed to a high quality destination.  We are the only school in Bradford to have achieved this.
