Year 9 and Year 10 pupils had the opportunity to seek advice from a panel of experts recently. Staff from seven locally based businesses and higher educational establishments kindly gave their time to act as panelists for around the table discussion.

Pupils came prepared and fired thought provoking questions about the world of work to the panel. They were then given sound advice on how to prepare for an interview, how to deal with nerves and the benefits of taking an apprenticeship. Panellists also fielded questions about their own career pathways, allowing an insight into their professional journeys.

The panel of experts included Faraha Khan, Hallmark Cards, Mark Gill, Headway Recruitment, Carole King, Provident Financial PLC, Sarah Baker, Stickyeyes, Matthew Ricardo, The Tutor Doctor, Dermot Bolton, University of Bradford and Peter Wardyn from Fives Group.

One Year 10 pupil said: “I found Carole from Provident Financial really interesting and I would really like to do an apprenticeship after my GCSE’s and pursue a career in finance.”

One panel member said: “The pupils listened well and asked some very interesting questions. I believe the majority took away some food for thought about what to do after Year 11.”
