First Lego League

A team of 8 of our Year 10 boys took part in the “First Lego League” in York, a competition testing the teams’ engineering, programming, planning, presenting and problem-solving skills. For the competition the team were required to:

  • build and program a Lego robot capable of running a series of tasks independently
  • describe and explain their design and building process for their robot
  • present an innovative solution that uses renewable energy.

The team had been preparing for the competition every week by attending our Lego robotics club, where they have been able to plan, build and test their robot.

The boys had a tough schedule for the first three rounds, with not much practice time in between each round, but were able to improve on their score throughout the day. The boys unfortunately didn’t manage to get passed the first round of the knock out stages, but with the points they gathered, they managed to come a respectable fifth place. The boys can be proud of their efforts and did manage to bring back the “York University Future Engineers Award Trophy” for demonstrating their great engineering skills.
