Arkwright Scholars
11/10/2024
We are the highest achieving ‘non-selective’ state school in the country after six of our very talented pupils were awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.
An Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is the most esteemed scholarship of its type in the UK, designed to inspire pupils to pursue their dreams and change the world as an outstanding engineer of the future. The Scholarships are awarded to hard-working 16-year-old pupils through a rigorous selection process, starting with an application form to demonstrate their passion, understanding and application of engineering. This is followed by a two-hour formal assessment. Successful candidates are then invited to the interview stage, where they are seen by a panel of two industry experts, providing the opportunity for the candidates to present on a STEM based project. Praise should also be given to all pupils that apply to the scholarship, as the application process itself is a key ‘life skill’.
We would therefore like to congratulate the following pupils, Alice B, Nia H, Grace M, Angus B, Finlay W and Gallagher W!! All but one of the pupils have continued their Post-16 education at Titus Salt School, completing their A levels at the Denys Salt Sixth Form, in a range of subjects, including Mathematics, Physics and Design Engineering.
All will be awarded an industrial sponsor and mentor for the two years of their A level studies and receive a financial bursary of £250 per year. Scholars have access to a wide variety of exclusive events run by Arkwright’s partner companies, universities, and trade associations, including face to face and virtual events. These events give the scholars a real insight into different sectors of industry and academia and a chance to network with other scholars.
Headteacher, Phil Temple said: This is an amazing achievement and testament to the hard work and dedication our pupils put into their school life. These pupils embody our school values, together, resilient, ambitious, and caring, and I very much look forward to watching them continue their Arkwright Scholarship journey, I am sure all have a very bright future ahead of them.
