Year 7 Competition Winners

Congratulations and well done to all our 2020 English prize winners. We are very pleased to have been able to congratulate the Y7 prize winners and to give them the opportunity to collect their prizes.

In the summer, pupils had the opportunity to take part in both our six-word story competition and the summer challenge task and we received lots of fantastic entries for both which made decisions very difficult for our panel of judges.

Our budding writers followed a series of steps to create wonderful and effective 6-word stories like our top prize winner, ‘Souls rest, if we let them’ by Ayesha. This was closely followed by our 2nd entry, ‘Ascending. Clouds. Turbulence. Lightning. Brace. Regret’ and 3rd place, ‘Cold blooded regret cornered me in!’ who all received vouchers.

However, we felt lots of the other stories needed commending for their imagination or wit and these pupils selected notebooks and stationary to help them keep up their writing.

For the summer challenge, pupils had a wide range of tasks that challenged their reading, writing and creative skills and again vouchers were up for grabs for the winners. Libby was our first-place winner as she blew the judges away with her presentation and the fact that she had attempted each and every task! Along with the top three prizes we had special commendation and commendation prizes too.

Well done to everyone who took part.

  • Community

    • Good community links add relevance and interest to students’ work. We have strong business links and work closely with voluntary groups, our local primary schools and other organisations. Our growing partnership with local providers is a real strength.

We are keen to be ‘community partners’. Students and staff are active members of local focus groups and attend local forums. As the lead secondary school within the Shipley Achieving Success (SAS) partnership we are proactive in our support with young people and their families. Our Extended School provision is wide ranging and offers opportunities to engage in after school and holiday clubs together with a wide range of workshops.
