Denys Salt Sixth Form Centre

Sixth Form pupil James Weedon travelled to London in April to experience what life could be like in the film industry.  The media student applied to the National Youth Film Academy for this once in a lifetime opportunity to spend two weeks in the capital with likeminded people doing the thing he loves most, film making. James submitted a portfolio of his best work and then underwent a gruelling interview to successfully take on the role of director. Out of 3000 applicants, James was one of 80 who were given a place on this NYFA course. Second youngest and youngest of four directors, James had the opportunity to work with industry professionals including Rob Grant and Paul Alexander, writers of Red Dwarf and Pitch Perfect. Rodney Victor-Williams, a director and lecturer at London Film School was James’ mentor for the duration of the course and was so impressed with James he has asked him to direct a music video for him.

We are a great school with great aspirations; proud of our history and heritage yet always looking to the future. The two years in Sixth Form are probably the most important in your education and will determine the path you take in life.

There has never been a better time to study in our Sixth Form: our school has excellent facilities, offers a wide choice of courses and our A-level results remain in the top 10% nationally. We are very proud of our students’ achievements with the overwhelming majority progressing to university or directly into a career. This reflects the strong sense of dedication, care and support we offer.

Our Sixth Form curriculum offers opportunities for high achievement and a range of experiences in a friendly and caring atmosphere.

We offer a wide range of subjects to meet both the interests and potential of our learners.

KS5 Performance Information - August 2017

It was a pleasure to see our Year 13 leaners return for their A Level and Vocational Level results which once again are in line with the national average with learners gaining an average A Level score of a grade C and significantly achieving a grade A/B for Vocational subjects. After an anxious couple of hours on results day for two learners awaiting notification from “Clearing”, we have 100% of our leaners going on to study at University they applied for and all others going on to apprenticeship, college or employment. Over 53% of A Level entries were awarded grades A* to B with a very strong performance in the STEM subjects and nearly 90% of Vocational entries were awarded the top grades of Distinction* or Distinction. There were some stunning individual performances with one learner attaining 2 A levels at grade A* and two at grade A; two leaners attaining 4 A Levels at Grade A and eleven other learners gaining at least 1 A or A*; twenty-one learners attained at least three grades at Distinction *. We are delighted our learners have achieved so much and that their hard work has brought them the rewards they deserve. We wish all our leaners well for the future.
