Overview of Science Faculty

Students follow the WIKID scheme of work at Key Stage 3 which is an integrated science course. At GCSE we follow the 21st Century Science course which allows students to gain one, two or three GCSEs depending upon their chosen options. A GCSE in Science can be followed by either Additional or Additional Applied Science and we have some students who pursue single GCSEs in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. All these courses involve hands on practical work, written coursework and exams. Some students choose to study for the BTEC First in Applied Science which is a portfolio based qualification with no exam and again involves both practical and theory work. Post-16 students can study for the AQA A level at AS or A2, or may choose the BTEC National in Medical Science which contains elements of all the sciences in a vocational context.
