Yr 7s Join In, Join Up
We are encouraging all our Year 7 students to join our local libraries. This will help support your child's learning by allowing them access to thousands of books and on-line resources. We are working closely with Shipley Library to make joining a simple process; you only need to return the application form to us and we will do the rest.
Students should have received an application pack from their Form Tutor on Thursday 15 November but it can also be downloaded from our website. You can also email us at read@tss.bradford.sch.uk and we will ensure you get one.
For us to process the application please return it to school by next Monday 19 November.
Year 7 students who already have a local library card, or who join up now will be entered in our Deecember prize draw.
RE(AD)-CYCLE
Monday 1 October saw the Launch of our Re(ad)-Cycle project:
Staff and students are being encouraged to clear out their bookshelves and bring unwanted books into school as part of a new recycling campaign to get Year 8 reading.
14 November Update - Thanks to the generosity of staff and students we have achieved our first target of collecting enough books to fill a full set of Year 8 form room book boxes and these have now been delivered to form rooms. So far we have collected over 300 books.
The most-donated books by far are Anthony Horowitz' Alex Rider series and anything and everything by Jaqueline Wilson.
We are still collecting:
children's/teens books suitable for years 7 -11, books for primary school and very young children and toddlers so if you have a copy of the likes of Hairy MacLary or the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Students in Years 7-11 who donate books will be rewarded with a special green Re(ad)-Cycle stamp, worth one merit, for each book they donate (up to a maximum of five in one week) and Post-16 students will be nominated for a Sixth Form Star Award.
We think the Re(ad)-Cycle Project is a great way for our students to share, swap and re-cycle AND encourage reading into the bargain. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and keep on donating!
Re(ad)-Cycle Book Tally: 300 (14 Nov)
